Collins Response

How can you say that to
Analysis
Ana lysis
Is to beat a poem
With a hose

It is more a gentle tugging
At the feet
Undressing the poem one article
of clothing
at a time

Becuase when you think
K Can’t you feel the poem
Run your fingers through
The poem’s hair

You’re sad becuase you pull a strand out
Keep it as a keepsake
Can’t you feel the sadness in the hair
Can’t you trace the gentle callouses
On the rough palm
Feel the strength
Of the creator

Every emotion you hold
With you
as a keepsake
Of the creation
Its an ana
lysis
You’ve
Lysed the meaning
Cut it apart
You’re left with one strand of hair

Even a little
Fleck k k
Of sKin that lands on your forearm
You ana
lyse
Because

When you feel a poem
Really feel it
Or don’t feel it
You’ve made a judgement

And you cannot possible gleam
Every meaning of the poem
You wouldn’t pull the hair one strand at a time
Take off every article of clothing
Becuase
That’s immoral
You don’t
Know the heart of the poem
Placed there by the tears the writer
Pours out
Dips her pen in
And writes out the eyes

Those bits are not for you
So
When you read the poem
And you keep your keepsake
You have already
ana
lysed
and there is no going back

And this is why I ask
Implore
Question
Pull
Why do you say
to ana lyse
is to beat
a poem

with a hose?
