Writing Reflection

I really like his quote about talent and writing. David Foster Wallace said that though some people have a natural talent and are simply gifted at writing, they are harder to teach because they have more of an ego attached to their work. Good writing is the product of hard work, determination, and practice. It's a muscle that has to be worked and exercised regularly, almost like a sport. You can walk in with some amount of natural athleticism, but anyone can be a good writer if they have the grit and determination it takes to work towards excellence. "Good writing isn't a science. It's an art, and the horizon is infinite. You can always get better." It's uplifting to know that good writing is attainable, even if it takes a lot of effort.

  1. I wrote about that quote too, Jessica! I appreciate that you highlighted the actual correlation between an athlete and a writer, and how maybe the most pleasant writers, in the end, are the ones who have had to work hard to get where they are.
