If Austen's fashion sense mirrored her literary style, she would wear socks and sandals. In addition, she would have black with a pop of color because that was uncommon at that time, and the way Austen wrote about women was uncommon at the time. She she would a bucket hat purely ironically to make fun of that trend. She would wear the black and pull it off because of her sophisticated writing style. The scarf represents her romanticism.
