I have seen the painting that you used for Paul D. and Sethe before and I think it is so appropriate for the relationship in the book - there is even a quote in which they discuss how they spend their time together "in the dark," as if they need one another's affection but must still hide from each other due to the pain of their memory. The mask is a very accurate representation of the storyline.
I really agree with your picture of Paul D. & Sethe. The characters are definitely interested in each other, but something's keeping them from actually clicking.
I love the picture you chose for Paul D. and Sethe. The cloth covering their eyes as they embrace is a great way of looking at the sugar coating or willful deception the two carry out. However at the end of chapter 18, the cloth comes off and Paul D ends up leaving.

The picture you chose of Sethe and Paul D's relationship accurately describes their relationship. They seem to use each other for their own personal reasons but do not truly love each other.

I think the picture you chose for Paul D and Sethe really fits because it depicts the undiscovered aspect of their relationship. They connect on a surface level, but choose not to go further because it is too painful. This is shown on page 86 of the book when "saying more might push them both to a place they couldn't get back from." So, they decide not to pursue this toxic relationship because it will possibly push them over the edge.
Same group. Wow! I think your Paul D. and Sethe image is really interesting, how they are so close, yet in a way disconnected.

ReplyDeleteThe relationship between Sethe and Paul D involves blind trust and symbiosis.
