Writing Reflection

As I read the insights that Wallace has about good writing, my mind immediately focuses on the fact that I do not often think about who reads my writing. It makes me think that I should read over my drafts and think how everything is put together and how will other readers feel when reading it this way. Wallace's first quote in the conversation also made me think about how I read "good writing". The writing I deem to be "good" is indeed the writing that I can have a strong connection to while reading it. Reading this works by great writers makes me want to be better so that I can create connections between my writing and its readers. Knowing what I can eventually do with my writing is a strong driving force for me. Writing has never been my strongest interest and I do not have fun very often when forced to write. However, I believe that by improving my writing, I can improve my "natural self-involvement" and other things about my life not mentioned about Wallace.

  1. I think you make an interesting point about connecting to the reader and thinking about who is reading your writing. Because all we do for school is write for teachers I sometimes forget to think about who is reading it.
