In terms of class writing, I think that the most defining difference in AP Lit has been the precision that Wallace mentions. Just as the way "less" is an inferior word to "fewer" in the context of a supermarket checkout, every word has the potential to be substituted or improved for a more descriptive or engaging replacement. At every level, I agree that the reader has to be engaged by the writer in order for the ultimate goal of communication to happen. With imprecise or misused language, the final messages become confusing or obfuscated.

Writing Reflection
Wallace's discussion on not having a horizon in writing or any other art where one can improve was the most enlightening to me. In addition, authors like Lamott and Gaiman used the same exact analogy in describing where budding writers could improve in their style or prose. I think it's very true that in anything, if you believe that you are at the top there is no motivation to continuously improve or even a drive to maintain the position at the top.
